live wedding painting

So what’s your story?

What marks your identity as a couple?

What makes you, you?

These are questions I consider as I design your piece.

Unlike most wedding painters who paint a picture of the ceremony or reception while it’s underway, I instead have a conversation with the couple months in advance to learn about who they are and what’s important to them. This inspires the design of a completely customized piece, which I then create live from beginning to end on their special day. I get to the heart of what’s important to a couple and reflect that in a thoughtfully composed artwork that they can display in their home for decades to come.

This couple’s piece was inspired by key interests, symbols, and places. The groom loved trains while the bride loved biking. They also wanted to capture their love of Milwaukee (shown by famous Milwaukee buildings), their shared faith (symbolized by a church), and to depict their wedding venue (the Hilton Hotel). I symbolized their unity by converging paths and accommodated their color scheme and canvas size requests in order for the painting to situate perfectly in their home.

This couple’s piece was inspired by a dream the bride had of meeting her husband - years before actually meeting him! During our planning conversation, she described her dream in detail, down to the setting (standing on a dock surrounded by a colorful sunset) and specific clothing and accessories worn by each of them (including a watch and baseball hat). She said how surreal it was meeting her husband for the first time in real life having felt like she had already known him in her dream. To this couple, the dream represented God’s faithfulness and hope after a long season of waiting. I used vibrant chalk pastels and framed the piece for them after it was completed.

This piece was a complete surprise for the bride-to-be! The bride’s mother wanted to give her daughter a special gift - live art for her bridal shower. I was given a sentimental photo of the couple, taken during their trip to Napa Valley in California where the groom proposed. I created this pencil sketch from beginning to end and got to chit-chat with the guests during the process.
